The Hollywood Sign is a landmark and American cultural icon located on hills overlooking Los Angeles, California.
First put up in 1923 as an advertisement for the nearby real estate development "HollywoodLand," the sign, minus the last syllable, became a cherished symbol for the Hollywood film industry.
