Location:  Corsica

Event:  An unofficial day of mourning on March 25 will follow the funeral of Corsican nationalist Yvan Colonna in Cargese, north of Ajaccio.  Masses will also take place in Bastia and Lugo-Do-Naza.  Trains, the regional national park, and several town halls will be closed.  Demonstrations may occur throughout the weekend and some have the potential to become violent.

Actions to Take:

  • Avoid the areas of the demonstrations and government buildings
  • Exercise caution if in the vicinity of large gatherings 
  • Monitor local media for updates
  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • Keep a low profile
