The U.S. Consulate General was happy to collaborate with singer and songwriter Lisa Doby to bring her musical-conference “Soul Survival: The Birth, Expansion and Influence of African American Music” to the Courbet high school in Belfort, Franche-Comté. The presentation brought a musical backdrop and context to the history of Civils Rights in America from the 1800s to present day. The African American music genres blues, gospel and jazz were greatly appreciated by high school students and their teachers during the presentation.  Lisa even received standing ovations when she sang Pharell Williams’ “Happy”.
