On Sunday, May 8, Consul General Amy Westling commemorated Victory in Europe Day and laid a wreath – with Mayor-delegate Thierry Speitel-Gotz — at the American Monument just outside of Sigolsheim in Alsace, France. The monument was erected in memory of all American units that fought alongside the French First Army from November 1944 to February 1945 for the liberation of Alsace during WWII. It was inaugurated on May 13, 1995 by U.S. Ambassador Pamela Harriman.
