Demonstration Alert – U.S. Embassy Paris, France

Location:  Paris and throughout France.  Gathering points and routes in Paris include, but are not limited to, the Champs-Elysees, Place de la Concorde, Place de la Madeleine, Assemblée Nationale, and the Champs de Mars near the Eiffel Tower.

Event:  It is possible that demonstrations by the “Gilets Jaunes” (yellow vests) may continue on November 25 and in the coming days.  The group is protesting fuel prices and taxes.  Demonstations on Saturday, November 24 resulted in violent confrontations between demonstrators and police.  In addition to the demonstrations in Paris and other major cities, organizers continue to call for traffic interruptions and blockades throughout France.

Actions to Take:

  • Avoid the areas of the demonstrations
  • Exercise caution if in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests
  • Monitor local media for updates
  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • Keep a low profile
  • Notify friends and family of your safety
