Demonstration Alert – U.S. Embassy Paris, France
February 19, 2021
Location: Paris, Place Montparnasse/Denfert Rochereau, and other locations in France.
Event: A Generation Identitaire demonstration is expected to take place on Saturday beginning at 14:00 hours. Generation Identitaire is a generally far-right group espousing an anti-American and anti-Islamic foreign policy, and is trying to stop the group’s dissolution by the French government. Due to the possibility of counter protests by extreme left groups and the potential for violence, the U.S. Embassy is advising U.S. government employees to avoid the Place Montparnasse/Denfert Rochereau area on Saturday afternoon. The group is also expected to demonstrate in Lyon on Saturday, but the time and location have not been announced.
Actions to Take:
- Avoid the Montparnasse/Denfert Rochereau area on Saturday afternoon.
- Exercise caution if in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests
- Monitor local media for updates
- Be aware of your surroundings
- Keep a low profile
