Demonstration Alert – U.S. Embassy Paris, France

Location:  Paris and possibly other major cities nationwide.

Event:  A labor union demonstration in Paris is scheduled for January 24, 2020 beginning at the Place de la République and ending at the Place de la Concorde.

Transportation and public services affected by recent strikes are improving.  However, various labor unions continue to call for demonstrations in major cities.  In Paris, future unannounced demonstrations could occur in areas such as, but not limited to, the Champs-Elysées, Boulevard Saint-Germain, Place de la Concorde, Place de la Madeleine, Place de la Bastille, Place de la République, and the Assemblée Nationale.

While the demonstrations may not be directed at the U.S. Embassy, access to the streets surrounding the Embassy may be blocked by police or demonstrators.

Actions to Take:

  • Avoid the areas of the demonstrations
  • Exercise caution if in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests
  • Monitor local media for updates
  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • Keep a low profile
