Demonstration Alert – U.S. Embassy Paris, France (October 15, 2021)

Location:  Nationwide at roundabouts

Event:  Gilet Jaunes are calling on protestors to occupy roundabouts throughout France and around the Paris peripherique on Saturday, October 16.  No specific times have been announced.  At similar past Gilet Jaunes actions, upset motorists clashed with protestors, resulting in violence and serious injuries.  Embassy employees have been directed to remain patient and calm if caught in the disruptions.

Additional non-violent protests are expected Saturday across France, and in Paris, Marseille and Strasbourg on Sunday.

Actions to Take:

  • Avoid the areas of the demonstrations
  • Exercise caution if in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests
  • Monitor local media for updates and public transport disruptions
  • Be aware of your surroundings
  • Keep a low profile
