Christopher Crawford commenced his duties as U.S. Consul to Lyon in August 2019. His most recent assignment was the head of logistics and real estate at the U.S. Consulate in Sydney, Australia, where he led a team that handled diverse functions ranging from official housing to international shipping. Prior to that tour, he served in various positions at the U.S. embassies in Kabul, Paris and Dili, Timor-Leste.
Mr. Crawford was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. Before joining the State Department, he served in the U.S. Army, including a tour in Iraq. He previously worked as a law clerk with the U.S. Air Force in Virginia, and for an NGO in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. He also spent two years living and volunteering in central Brazil.
Mr. Crawford earned a B.A. degree from Southern Utah University in Criminal Justice and Political Science, graduating magna cum laude, and a Juris Doctorate from the School of Law at the College of William and Mary. He speaks French and Portuguese. He is married to Kelly Crawford and together they have four adventurous children.
