Due to COVID-19, we encourage all adults renewing a 10-year passport to do so by mail. Note that mail-in renewal is not possible for children’s passports, passports issued more than 15 years ago, or for first-time adult passports (after age 16).

If you are unable to find an available appointment online, please contact PassportsParis@state.gov and attach a copy of your ticket to request service.

Renewing Adult's 10-Year Passport (By Mail)
You will need:
- Your most recent U.S. passport
- If your most recent passport was issued within the last 15 years and when you were age 16 or older, complete and sign a form DS-82. Otherwise, complete form DS-11 Note: Please list an emergency contact in the United States. You cannot currently list a “Country” when completing the “Emergency Contact” section on our forms..
- One color 2×2-inch photo. Click here for photos requirements.
- Pay the $110 passport application fee via the U.S. government’s secure payment site. Please print the electronic confirmation you receive via e-mail after successfully paying the fee and include it in the package you send to the embassy.

A self-addressed, prepaid envelope for passport return, with capacity for 500g for each applicant. This can be:
- A Lettre Suivie (“pret-a-poster”) 500g envelope, one for each applicant. If more than one applicant, each applicant needs their own envelope.
- A Chronopost (“pret-a-expedier”) or Collissimo (“pret-a-envoyer”) envelope good for at least 500 grams per applicant. One applicant can use the 1 kg (the smallest available) envelope and multiple applicants can use the same envelope, as long as you allow for 500g per applicant. Ex., Two applicants could be returned together in the 1 kg envelope, four applicants in the 2 kg envelope, etc.
- NOTE: Applicants outside of Metropolitan France and Monaco should use a Letter Suivie or a Chronopost “Monde et Outre-Mer” envelope.
- Applicants for a Consular Report of Birth Abroad may use the same 500g envelope for both the passport and the CRBA, but the envelope must be A4 size.

Special Circumstances: Renewing Passports Issued More than 15 Years Ago, Passports with Less that 10-Year Issuance or First-Time Adult Passports (In-Person)
You must make an in-person appointment for any of the following special circumstances:
- Your current passport is issued for less than the standard 10 years.
- Your passport was issued more than 15 years ago
- You are applying for your first adult (over the age of 16) passport
- A completed DS-11 form. Do not sign it.
- If you have never had a U.S. Social Security Number, complete this form.
- If you do not remember your U.S. Social Security Number, contact the Federal Benefits Unit before applying for the passport.
- Your most recent U.S. passport. If your most recent U.S. passport expired more than 15 years ago, please bring an original and copy of your valid government-issued ID (foreign passport, French ID, etc.)
- Original and copy of your U.S. Birth certificate, Report of Birth Abroad, or Naturalization Certificate

Renewing Child's Passport (In-Person)
To renew a child’s passport, you must make an in-person appointment. You can make your appointment online for the Embassy in Paris or Consulate in Marseille. For an appointment in Strasbourg, call 01 43 12 47 11 or email: USAStrasbourg@state.gov.
Important: Both parents and the child must be present. Both parents must consent to passport renewal. If only one parent can come, please go to this page, step #7 “Show Parental Consent” and complete Form DS-3053. If Form DS-3053 form is requested in French, here is the translation.
Please bring with you to your appointment:
- A completed DS-11 form. Do not sign it.
- If you have never had a U.S. Social Security Number, complete this form.
- If you do not remember your U.S. Social Security Number, contact the Federal Benefits Unit before applying for the passport.
- Original plus one copy of both parents’ government-issued ID (U.S. or foreign passport, French ID, etc.)
- Your child’s most recent U.S. passport.
