I am profoundly grateful for the courage and heroism of those passengers, including members of the U.S. armed services who, without concern for their own safety, managed to subdue an armed attacker aboard the Paris-bound train from Amsterdam yesterday evening.  While the investigation into the attack remains in its early stages, it is clear their quick and heroic actions prevented a far worse tragedy.  I extend my deepest sympathies to those who were injured in the attack and wish them rapid and full recoveries.  My thoughts and prayers are with them and their families.  We will remain in close contact with French authorities as the investigation proceeds.
