I would like to offer my sincerest condolences to all the families and friends of the victims of the horrendous attack in Nice, a city I’ve had the honor to visit several times. This act has appalled me and all Americans. I would also like to extend my condolences and sympathies to the people of France, who have had to suffer such barbaric attacks repeatedly in the last 18 months. I have asked my team at the U.S. Embassy to offer whatever possible help we can provide to French authorities.
As President Obama said yesterday: “We stand in solidarity and partnership with France, our oldest ally, as they respond to and recover from this attack.” Last year we witnessed the resilience and determination of the French people to stand up and protect the values we share: liberty, equality, and fraternity. I am confident they will do so again, and America will be right by their side.
