Notary Services

Notary Services Instructions

Consular Officers provide notary services similar to the functions of a notary public in the United States. This service is available to U.S. citizens as well as non-U.S. citizens if the document will be used in the United States.

Please note that Consular Officers are not French Notaires  – we can only certify the validity of a signature. We do not draft contracts or provide legal advice.

STEP ONE:

Determine if we are able to notarize your document.

STEP TWO:

Prepare your document and organize everything you need.

STEP THREE:

Schedule an appointment at any of the following locations:

  • Paris
  • Marseille (Consular Services will not be available at the U.S. Consulate General in Marseille from Monday, December 24, 2018, through Tuesday, January 1, 2019. Routine and emergency services will be available at the U.S. Embassy in Paris.)
  • Strasbourg

The American Presence Posts in Bordeaux, Lyon, and Rennes do not provide notary services.
