Documents We Notarize

Only certain documents for use in the United States and documents for use in France can be notarized at the Embassy and Consulates.

Notarial services are only available to U.S. and non-U.S. citizens with valid government issued identification

Important note.  Only notarial appointments may be scheduled on the calendar.  Do not schedule an appointment for visa information, passport or other services since it will be automatically canceled.

 After your selection, you will be prompted to the online appointment calendar for appointments in Paris.

It can take about 90 minutes for the notarial process, depending on the circumstances of the case. You will receive your notarized documents on the day of the appointment.

DO NOT SIGN ANY DOCUMENTS PRIOR TO YOUR APPOINTMENT TIME.

Notarial Documents for Marriage, Civil Partnership (PACS) for use in France

Important Note:  The U.S. Embassy cannot provide lists of the required documents for marriage.  Please contact the city hall “mairie” where the marriage will be held in order to obtain this information.

U.S. Consular officers at the embassy’s notarial unit may certify your signature on a document entitled Attestation tenant lieu de certificat de coutume et de célibat.

Instructions:

A.  Please complete the form below and schedule your online appointment as follows:

  1. Print  and complete form Attestation tenant lieu de certificat de coutume et de célibat (PDF – 320 KB)  Do not sign it!
  2. At the time of your appointment submit a valid, signed U.S. passport and the form completed legibly in black ink without mistakes or erasures.
  3. If you have been previously married please bring a copy of your final divorce decree.
  4. Only the U.S. citizen signing the document should appear at the time of this appointment.  You do not need to come with a witness for this document.

Requests for payment must be signed in the presence of and be certified by a a consular officer at the embassy.

  • If you are a U.S. citizen, you must include a statement over your signature stating that you are a U.S. citizen and you must provide your Social Security Number.
  • If you are not a U.S. citizen, you will need to fill out and include IRS Form W-8BEN.
